Christian Clothing Does Not Have to Be Boring!

When you go shopping for mystical teachings of jesus gifts what is, almost always the first thing you are going to stumble across? Clothes. Christian clothes. Christian t-shirts, Christian socks, Christian sweats. In years past people have viewed Christian clothing with a sort of disdain, not because of the message it carries but because it was years behind on the fashion scene! Guess what? Today’s’ clothing designers finally caught up-and today’s’ Christian clothing does not have to be boring!

I have to admit it-I love to shop. And because I love to shop I can often be found out wandering through the aisles at my local retailers, checking out what they have to offer. Unfortunately, unless I want to make a trip to my Christian bookstore most of what they have available for Christian clothing is-well, boring! You might find a shirt with the infamous “Jesus fish” on it here or there, but that is about it. Until now.

I was delighted this past winter to be wandering down the aisles of my local Super WalMart and stumble across an entire display dedicated to nothing but fun, funky Christian t-shirts. Sporting such unusual sayings as iPray (in true eBay style) these were hip, fun, friendly and, astonishingly, cheap.

I know many people who would spend more time in Christian apparel if they were able to find it through a more price conscientious retailer, something I will have to keep in mind for the future.

Fun Christian clothing is not just about spreading the word (although they do that quite well too). It is also about making sure Christians’ are putting their best foot forward when they step out into the world. Not only are they Christians’ and not afraid to show it (a vital and necessary part of living for Christ) they are also willingly committing to standing as a representative of God.

Think about it. Can you rob a store wearing a Christian t-shirt? Can you start a fight sporting a Christian baseball cap? Well, okay, you can, but you are not going to. Why? Because when you put those Christian clothes on you are saying, “I am a representative of the family of God.” Your mother certainly would not let you cast shame on the family name when you were attending a dinner or a conference in their name. God expects the same courtesy. With your Christian clothing, you are promising to give it to him.

Even a representative of Christ has the right to kick back and have a little fun (the right kind of fun, that is) which is why today’s’ Christian clothing is hipper, jazzier and trendier than it is ever been before. You will find bright colors, psychedelic prints, jazzy t-shirt designs (including baby doll tees) and big, baggy sweaters. There is quite literally something for everyone, which could not always be said of yesterdays’ clothing designs. And Christian clothing is stretching out to include footwear too! You will be amazed at what you find when you step outside your doors.
